A New Teammate and The Project of Firsts
I believe the last time I posted here was just after completing my drawing "Pine Forest".
That was in February! - I can hardly believe it has been almost a year. There's been some changes and new experiences I am excited to share with you.
A big change - I am no longer working solo!
My partner Kira left her job and has taken on the roll as curator and creative assistant for "Dustin Neece Studio". I am so thrilled to have her as my teammate.
She will be sharing more frequent 'behind the scenes' views as well as all exciting new updates and offerings via my email list and on instagram.
The project of firsts!
Kira and I did our first big project together. It was a permanent installation for the company my sister Ericka works for. The installation featured larger than life giclee prints of my landscapes and several abstract paintings specifically designed to go with the color branding and streamline feel of the office space.
Not only was this the first time I have seen my artwork printed on such a large scale (it was so cool to see the detail!), this was also the first time I have ever painted abstract pieces and enjoyed it!
Here are some images from the project:
A Varnishing Lesson
One of the biggest hurtles we faced during this installation was a fluke in the varnish that was applied to one of the giclée prints which is still remains a mystery.
When we unrolled the print, there were these huge cloudy spots. Kira tried to remove the cloudy areas with some water to no effect. As a last ditch effort before having to order a new print, we decided to revarnish the peice with gamvar.
IT WORKED!
The results were fantastic and made the print look even more rich in color. We decided it looked so good that we varnished all of the prints. A fluke that turned out to be a very happy accident!
Here is what it looked like before, and the shot of Dustin applying the gamvar.
Holiday Print Sale!
Kira has been busy making sure all my paintings that are available as giclée prints are now posted on my website. Just in time for the Holidays!
All prints will be on sale until Saturday, December 5th.
That will be the last day we will be accepting holiday orders.
